On June 27, 2023, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Epsilon Rho Lambda Chapter, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Gamma Upsilon Zeta Chapter, donated $5,000 each to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation (CFVHF) and March of Dimes (MOD) March for Babies in a brief afternoon ceremony at the CFVHF office in Fayetteville, NC. 2023 MARCH OF DIMES REPORT CARD

The 2023 March of Dimes Report Card highlights the collective factors that contribute to maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. Since 2008, March of Dimes has released our Report Card to educate and advocate for better mom and baby outcomes across the U.S., Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico. One thing that has remained constant: an alarmingly high preterm birth rate. In 2022, over 380,000 babies were born preterm—10.4% of all births—earning our nation a D+ for the second year in a row. In addition to the preterm birth rate, the report also includes indicators to better reflect the state of maternal and infant health in the U.S.

Ms. Michaela Penix, March of Dimes Director for Maternal Infant Health for NC, thanked chapter presidents and A2Z committee members for fighting for all healthy mothers and babies. She also commented the A2Z Race at Your Pace is the only Do-it-Yourself MOD race in the state of North Carolina. Also, our organizations can be proud of what we accomplished. Big shout out and thanks to our sponsors and everyone who supported A2Z. Because of you, this year's race was a huge SUCCESS.

Proceeds to Benefit the March of Dimes March for Babies

The A2Z Race at Your Pace is a fun run/walk that can be done at any time and any where. It is a great opportunity to join family and friends in raising money for the March of Dimes. For more than 40 years, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., and the March of Dimes have successfully partnered to raise funds to support research, advocate for, programs, and promote health equity for all moms and babies. Unfortunately, according to the March of Dimes, the “U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.” Because of this continuing need, last year our organizations hosted the Inaugural A2Z Race at Your Pace and donated $10,000 to the March of Dimes March for Babies.

“Whether you are a beginner or competitive runner or just want to support mothers and their babies, come out and join us, this walk/run is for everyone. Support to moms and their babies is even more important today given the COVID-19 pandemic and we want to do whatever we can to help families. As a mother of a premature baby, I understand the need for funds to support the March of Dimes.”
